On Wednesday, November 20th, the Associated Press called the race for Ohio's 9th Congressional District for Democratic Representative Marcy Kaptur and Alaska's at-large congressional district for Republican Nicholas Begich. Begich flipped the seat from blue to red by ousting his Democratic opponent, Mary Sattler Peltola.
It is important to note these races, as they make the current balance of power 219 seats for Republicans and 213 for Democrats. As of Thursday, November 21st, three house races remain uncalled for in California and Iowa. These three uncalled races are critical as they determine the final balance of power in the House of Representatives.
In California's 13th Congressional District, Republican Representative John Duarte leads his opponent, former Democratic State Assembly Member Adam Gray. It is estimated that about 96% of the vote has been counted. Duarte holds a slight lead with 50.1% to 49.9%. Both candidates are currently separated by 351 votes, totaling 101,217 for Duarte and 100,866 for Gray.
The second uncalled race is the 45th Congressional District of California. Democrat candidate Derek Tran is leading his Republican opponent, Michelle Steel. Steel was in the lead by several hundred votes last week, but Tran is now up by 397 votes. This makes Steel's total votes 155,465 and Tran's 155,862. The rough estimate of votes counted in the 45th Congressional District is roughly 97%.
The last uncalled race is Iowa's 1st Congressional District. Republican Representative Mariannet Miller-Meeks currently holds a little less than a 1% lead over her opponent, Christina Bohanna, with 99% of votes counted. Meeks' leading number of votes sits at just a little over 800. Bohannan has requested a recount in an attempt to unseat her opponent, Meeks. Even with 99% of the votes being accounted for, the race has not yet been called due to the margin being close enough to prompt a recount. Even though a recount has been requested, Meeks has declared her victory and expressed her confidence in the current lead.
