The News of Today is the History of Tomorrow —
Commentary by Larry Schweikart

IN POLITICAL NEWS

1) A mass shooting in Maine left 16 dead, with the suspect still at large. Early reports were that he obtained his gun legally.

2) Trump is leading in TN, predictably. However, although he is at the same level as 2020, Rutabaga has fallen 8 points since then, so the deficit is now 31.

3) The House, under new speaker Johnson, approved its first funding bill. It took McCarthy eight months.

4) Rutabaga’s foreign policy adviser Jake Sullivan boasted about how great the admin’s Gaza policy was before the murder-fest. Then he EDITED the Foreign Affairs piece to completely change it.

5) The Hill: Rutabaga’s “minimalist Middle East policy is a stunning failure.” Maybe. But to Rutabaga, it is accomplishing everything he wants. Chaos. American decline. Israel in danger.

6) Hate crimes against Jews are soaring.

7) An intruder was arrested twice at RFK, Jr.’s home. This is why he needs Secret Service protection, and the evil Rutabaga administration won’t give it to him.

8) Ron DeSantis and Nick Knack Paddywhack Give a Uke a Bomb are tied now at 8%, just two points ahead of Traitor Tuppence.

-Can we end this charade now?

9) Meanwhile, DeSantis is sending planeloads of donated weapons and drones to the Israelis.

10) Your taxpayer dollars at work: a Missouri teacher Rikki Laughlin faces 20 years in prison for sending nudes to a 16-year-old student and inviting him over for sex while her husband was away. I’m sure it had something to do with art class and math tutoring.

11) The usually reliable Ryan Fournier reports that Mark Meadows worked for the FBI as an informant and wore a wire with President Trump, which is not only unconstitutional but outright criminal. He predicts it’s the end of the FascistBI. Doubt it. Hope so, but doubt it. - THIS HAS BEEN RETRACTED, AND ORIGINAL POST TAKEN DOWN:

12) A man accused of murdering a Maryland judge who oversaw his divorce proceedings was found dead.

13) This poll has Rutabaga winning narrowly against Trump, but Trump crushing him in the key battleground states (+6). Note: RFK not included in the poll, even the three ways.

14) Scientists have discovered . . . wait for it . . . a vaccine for cocaine addiction. I think it’s called heroin.

IN ECONOMIC NEWS

15) Pending home sales fell to a near-record low in August.

IN INTERNATIONAL NEWS

16) The Mercedes-Benz CEO is whining about the EV market, as many automakers have to sell the crappy cars for less than combustion-engine cars despite higher production costs.

17) In Malawi, high school students chased planned parenthood from their campus and burned boxes of condoms.

18) Turkey’s central bank hiked interest rates to 35%.

19) Italy has become the first nation to ban Bill Gates’s fake meat.

20) The new Speaker demonstrated Jedi Level trolling of Botoxic.

IN ENTERTAINMENT NEWS

21)  I have to admit I’ve never had this experience: theater-goers watching “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “Saw X” complained their films were ruined by people screaming along to Taylor Swift songs on adjacent screens.

-First, “Killers” is 3.5 hours long. Not sure anything could “ruin” a movie that long unless it’s a mobile porta-potty. Second, they did the viewers of “Saw X” a favor. I see no problem here. It’s just “delicate.”

22) Got it. Tara Reid says her skinner appearance is due to getting “a little older,” not anorexia. Guess I’m not there yet, huh?

23) Now, this is love. Quarterback Russell Wilson rented an entire Waffle House restaurant for his wife’s 38th birthday.

24) This gets more tangled. Choreographer Grace Jabbari is charged with domestic assault on Jonathan Majors on the same day as he lost a motion to dismiss battery charges against her.

25) Hoped-for NBA superstar Victor Wembanyama sat out most of his first game due to fouls. We’ll see. This guy has all the tools, but don’t start calling him MJ yet.

IN CHINA VIRUS NEWS

26) The great Steve Kirsch: The vax killed 3.5 times more Americans than did the China Virus itself.

AND FINALLY...

27)  And finally, the Tuckster says an “abrupt change” is coming and that these may be the end times. Heck, I was sure the end times started when they canceled “Married With Children.”
