The National Rifle Association (NRA) has responded after President Donald Trump said “you can’t have guns” while discussing the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis. Pretti, an intensive care nurse, was shot dead by a federal immigration agent on Saturday during an enforcement operation.  Responding to the incident, Trump said on Tuesday: “You can’t have guns. You can’t walk in with guns. It’s a very unfortunate thing.” The NRA later posted on X: “The NRA unequivocally believes that all law-abiding citizens have a right to keep and bear arms anywhere they have a legal right to be.” Pretti was shot while filming an operation by federal agents last week. Homeland Security officials said he had a firearm and resisted attempts to be disarmed. However, eyewitnesses and Pretti’s family have challenged the claims...

The Federal Reserve is on track to keep interest rates steady Wednesday and defy the Trump administration’s controversial efforts to reshape the independent central bank. The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) is widely expected to leave its baseline borrowing rate unchanged, a move likely to infuriate President Trump as he faces increasing backlash from the American public.  Trump’s anger with the Fed and its chair, Jerome Powell, has grown as the president faces dismal approval ratings on the economy and historically bad consumer confidence. With less than a year until the midterm elections, Trump is scrambling to pull any lever he can to ease financial pressure on American households. But the Fed is unlikely to follow his lead Wednesday, as bank officials grow concerned with the stubbornness of inflation, which has changed little since Trump took office...

Secretary of State Marco Rubio will testify before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee about the U.S. policy toward Venezuela on Wednesday, answering questions from lawmakers for the first time since U.S. forces ousted former President Nicolás Maduro. In the wake of the Maduro operation, several Republicans expressed concern about U.S. involvement in Venezuela and helped advance a war powers resolution in the Senate to rein in President Trump's authority to carry out further military strikes. But some were swayed to ultimately back down after Rubio vowed the U.S. would not put ground troops in Venezuela. Mr. Trump's comments about "running" Venezuela and controlling its oil have since raised questions about his administration's plans for the country...

Civil rights attorneys representing the detainees were seeking a temporary injunction from U.S. District Judge Sheri Polster Chappell in Fort Myers that would ensure detainees at the state-run Everglades facility have the same access to their attorneys as they do at federally run detention centers. Gov. Ron DeSantis says leaders who aren’t doing their part to stop citizen protests from impacting immigration enforcement are guilty of “interposition,” effectively subverting the legitimate efforts of the federal government. He told the Florida Sheriffs Association that “sanctuary jurisdictions openly, proudly … say, you know, we are not going to cooperate with any type of immigration enforcement.” DeSantis singled out Minnesota, which has been in the news for the recent death of an armed protester in Minneapolis, for specific criticism. “You have somebody in a jail or in prison and they’re getting out. Why would you not honor a detainer request from the Department of Homeland Security to turn over the illegal criminal alien over to immigration so that they can be repatriated? But they don’t do that. They don’t help with data. They don’t help with all these other things,” DeSantis said...
