In his comments to the Wall Street Journal, Trump also indicated that he would eventually withdraw agents from the city. But he did not give a timeframe. Protests continued in Minneapolis and other US cities on Sunday, as Minnesota Governor Tim Walz warned that America was at an "inflection point". NARENDRA MODI’S guests of honour at Indian Republic Day on January 26th will not just be there to witness the pomp and parades. India’s prime minister has invited the European Union’s two top officials, Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, and António Costa, president of the European Council, which represents the EU’s member states. At an EU-India summit the following day, the two sides are expected to sign a range of agreements, among them a free-trade pact. Donald Trump deserves some of the credit. Without the American president’s nationalist adventurism, his predilection for tariffs, and his habit of alienating allies, the two big democracies might not have found the courage to strike a deal...#4 Taiwan Monitoring ‘Abnormal’ China Military Leadership Changes After Top General Put Under Investigation - Reuters, Andreas Landwehr, DEV_, Info Monitor, SpiritHimalaya, and gabrielregino
Taiwan is monitoring what it called "abnormal" changes to China's military leadership after its most senior general was put under investigation, and will not lower its guard as the threat level remains high, the defence minister said on Monday. China announced on Saturday that Zhang Youxia, second-in-command under President Xi Jinping as vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission, and another senior officer, Liu Zhenli, were under investigation for suspected serious violations of discipline and law. "We will continue to closely monitor abnormal changes among the top levels of China's party, government, and military leadership. The military's position is based on the fact that China has never abandoned the use of force against Taiwan," Taiwan Defence Minister Wellington Koo told reporters at parliament...#5 Senate Democrats Plot Strategy as DHS Standoff Deepens Heading Into Shutdown Week - Sahil Kapur and Frank Thorp V for NBC News, 𝐃𝐎𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐔𝐒 XRP Syndicate, Tali9119, Moon/Donald J. Senate Democrats held a conference call Sunday to discuss their strategy after they made it clear they will block a Department of Homeland Security funding bill if it does not include changes to impose conditions on immigration enforcement operations. The Senate is heading into a critical week with a Friday deadline to fund the government or face a partial shutdown. The package doesn’t have the 60 votes it needs. Without them, much of the federal government could shut down at 12:01 a.m. Saturday. Two sources on the call told NBC News that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., told the caucus the message had to be to “restrain, reform, and restrict ICE.”
