#10 Judge Says CDC Email Policy Likely Violates Federal Law - Alejandra O’Connell-Domenech for The Hill, America First Legal on X

A federal judge ruled Friday that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has likely been breaking federal law by deleting former employees’ emails soon after they leave the agency. The ruling was issued by District Judge Rudolph Contreras on a lawsuit filed by the Trump-aligned conservative group America First Legal Foundation in April. Contreras found that the CDC was following a records-retention policy that had not been approved by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) and allowed former low-level employee emails to be deleted within about three months of them leaving the agency.  “The court concludes that CDC’s policy and practice of disposing of former employees’ emails ninety days after the end of their employment is likely unlawful,” the 36-page-long opinion reads...

#9 RNC Asks Supreme Court to Revive Arizona Voter Registration Law - Zach Schonfeld for The Hill, RNC Election Integrity on X

The Republican National Committee (RNC) asked the Supreme Court to take emergency action to revive an Arizona law requiring voter registration applicants to show proof of citizenship when using a state form. The request, docketed Friday, also asks to reinstate Arizona’s prohibition of voting in presidential elections or by mail if someone has not met the proof-of-citizenship requirement, regardless of whether they used the state or federal form. The RNC’s application seeks to implement the law for November’s election when Arizona is expected to be a critical swing state in the race between former President Trump and Vice President Harris. Currently, Arizona’s provisions are on hold under rulings issued by lower courts...

#8 Harris Pledges to Work to End Taxes on Tips for Service Industry Employees, Echoing Trump Vow - AP News, Graham Allen, SteveGruberShow, BeinLibertarian, and Liam McCollum on X

Vice President Kamala Harris promised Saturday to work to eliminate taxes on tips paid to restaurant and other service industry employees, echoing a pledge that her opponent, Republican Donald Trump, has made, and marking a rare instance of political overlap from both sides. Harris made the announcement at a rally on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where the economy relies heavily on the hotel, restaurant, and entertainment industries. Trump vowed essentially the same thing at his own rally in the city in June — though neither he nor Harris are likely to be able to fully do that without actions from Congress...

#7 FTC Head Wants Investigation Into Grocery Stores Over Inflated Prices - Josh Marcus for The Independent, Thomas Massie, and American Economic Liberties Project on X

The head of the Federal Trade Commission wants to investigate whether grocery stores could do more to lower prices for Americans, as many shoppers continue to be shocked over their food bills. This month, FTC Lina Khan announced she would seek the investigation, during the first meeting of the Biden administration’s multi-agency Strike Force on Unfair and Illegal Pricing. Khan said that while the pandemic temporarily jacked up labor costs and caused supply chain disruptions, those constraints have eased, but “many items are still too costly, and many large grocery chains are still raking in enormous profits.”

#6 Florida Republicans Tout 1 Million Voter Edge Over Dems After Years of Stunning Growth -  Ryan King for The New York Post, Florida's Voice, Steve Deace and Frog Capital on X

Sunshine State Republicans blew past a key milestone and are now touting a 1 million voter registration advantage over Democrats. The achievement announced by the GOP Sunday caps off a stunning transformation for a once quintessential battleground state where Democrats previously long held the advantage. “Our success goes beyond just numbers,” Florida state GOP Chairman Evan Power said in a statement. “It’s about a vision to make Florida the beacon of freedom for the rest of the country.” In just 2018, Democrats had more than 250,000 more registered voters than Republicans, according to the Florida Division of Elections...

#5 Why the Secret Service Had to Apologize to a Local Salon Owner - Matt Vespa for Townhall, Larry, Jonathan Turley and Chuck Harrison on X
In late July, Vice President Kamala Harris held a fundraising event in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, in Berkshire County. The July 27 event is now in the news for the unforced public relations incident created by the agency, which is already being grilled and ridiculed for failing to protect former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13. No assassination attempts occurred in Pittsfield, but Secret Service agents were engaged in what arguably was a breaking and entering incident. A local salon owner says agents left her place of business a mess, did not ask permission for entry, and it was all caught on camera for the most part; an agent was recorded putting duct tape over the security cameras. After they left, the salon owner says her storefront was a shambles and unlocked...

#4 RNC Has 157,000 Volunteers Set to Watch 2024 Results - Asher Notheis for Washington Examiner, Michael Whatley on X

Republican National Committee co-chairman Michael Whatley stressed the need for his party to ensure there is no fraud in the 2024 election, revealing it has surpassed one of its goals in such an effort. Whatley explained that part of the RNC’s work to underscore election integrity has included several lawsuits seeking to ensure voters need a form of identification when they cast their vote, which he argued would prevent illegal immigrants from voting this November. He also detailed how he and RNC co-chairwoman Lara Trump have vowed to recruit over 100,000 volunteers for its Protect the Vote program...

#3 Ford Could Be Working on a Camera System That Automatically Reports Speeding Vehicles - Leon Poultney for TechRadar, and Car Dealership Guy on X

A recent patent filing by Ford titled "Systems and Methods for Detecting Speeding Violations" appears to show that the company is looking at a way of automatically snitching on speeding motorists. According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the filing looks at ways Ford can use vehicles and their on-board camera and sensor technology to first detect a speeding motorist and then report them to the authorities. A series of basic sketches and flow charts show how Ford’s technology can sense when motorists are driving over the speed limit, subsequently activate the camera and capture images before passing the information on to nearby 'pursuit vehicles' or logging it to a server...

#2 ‘Pull off a Leg or Two’: Planned Parenthood Staff Discuss Harvesting Baby Parts in Unsealed Footage - Jordan Boyd for The Federalist, Libs of TikTok and Anna Lulis, and Kristan Hawkins on X

Newly released footage captured by undercover journalists in 2015 shows Planned Parenthood staff discussing the process of harvesting aborted baby parts and allegedly exposes a scheme to traffic them. David Daleiden, project lead for the Center For Medical Progress (CMP), recorded the damning footage in 2015 at the National Abortion Federation’s (NAF) commercial trade show in San Francisco. A court injunction stemming from California Attorney General-turned-Vice President Kamala Harris’ prosecution of Daleiden previously blocked the release of the footage. Thanks to a congressional subpoena and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., however, Daleiden was finally permitted to post hours of footage allegedly exposing Planned Parenthood’s gruesome practices nearly a decade after he collected it...

#1 ActBlue Tightens Donation Security Requirements Amid Investigations - Tyler Durden ZeroHedge, Texas Scorecard, Ned Ryun, James O'Keefe, Naomi Kane on X
ActBlue agreed to tighten its donation security requirements, according to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who, along with other Republican-controlled states and a congressional committee, is investigating the Democratic fundraising platform. Paxton said in an Aug. 8 statement that ActBlue has cooperated with the Texas investigation and will now require CVV codes for credit card contributions. One primary focus of the Texas probe launched in December 2023 involved ActBlue’s failure to require donors to provide CVV codes, which are numerical codes printed on credit cards commonly used to combat credit card fraud. ActBlue has been the subject of numerous allegations of illicit activity, including that its platform may enable fraud,” the statement said. Paxton said his office issued a supplemental civil investigative demand in his ongoing probe to obtain additional information relevant to allegations of wrongdoing regarding ActBlue. Enforcing the law surrounding elections and campaign contributions is critical, he said...
