For the second time in little more than a week, a drill sergeant was found dead at Fort Jackson, the U.S. Army said Monday. The body of Staff Sgt. Zachary L. #9 House Democrats Call on Justice Clarence Thomas to Recuse from Trump 2020 Election Case - Melissa Quin for CBS News
Washington — A group of House Democrats is calling on Justice Clarence Thomas to recuse himself from the case pending before the Supreme Court involving whether former President Donald Trump is absolutely immune from federal prosecution for alleged crimes committed while in office. Led by Georgia Rep. Hank Johnson, the group of eight Democrats told Thomas in a letter dated Dec. 15 that the activities of his wife, Ginni Thomas, after the 2020 election raise "serious questions" about his ability to remain impartial in cases before the high court that involve the last presidential election and the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

#8 'Only WHITE People are Racist': IBM's Red Hat Allegedly Issues 10 'Allyship Commandments' to Employees - Andrew Chapados for Blaze Media
IBM subsidiary Red Hat allegedly issued a series of commandments to employees that they must follow and must accept as "fundamental truths," including that only white people can be racist and that white people are responsible for ending racism. Investigative journalist James O'Keefe and O'Keefe Media Group obtained what they purport is a document from IBM subsidiary Red Hat. Red Hat is an American software company founded in 1993 that was purchased by IBM in 2018 for $34 billion. The alleged internal document, titled "Allyship Commandments," included a subheading stating that "your allyship commitment accepts these fundamental truths."

According to a program alleged to be in practice at the company, "allyship" refers to an "active and consistent effort to use your privilege and power to support and advocate for people with less privilege."

#7 San Francisco Reparations Office Has Brutal Encounter with Reality - Entire Department Defunded - Rachel M. Emmanual for The Western Journal
In January, a San Francisco panel studying reparations for slavery came up with an ambitious proposal — a lump sum of payment of $5 million to every eligible black American in the City by the Bay. The cost to the city for this fantastical plan was estimated at $175 billion for the $5 million payouts alone. That amount is bigger than the entire annual budgets of 47 of the 50 U.S. states, The Hill reported. But, in a hilarious turn of events, the “entitlement committee,” as it should have been called, has other things to worry about. Forget about reparations — the city has no money to even fund the committee itself.

#5 USDA Reopens Comment Period for Deregulation of Gene-Edited Plants - Steven Middendorp for The HighWire
The deregulation of gene-edited plants is on the USDA agenda, and the public comment period has been extended by 21 days. The comment page has yet to be posted on the Federal Register. CRISPR is a new technology that is being used in agriculture to modify plants. “New Gene Technologies” or NGTs are how big agricultural companies like Bayer are modifying crops. They are attempting to deregulate this technology before any legitimate safety studies are performed. While GMO crops have their own regulations, the new gene-edited crops will not be regulated if this proposal passes.

#3 Brandon Straka Proclaims Victory in J6-Related Civil Case - Ward Clark for Red State
On Monday, social media "influencer" and vocal Trump supporter Brandon Straka proclaimed victory in a January 6th-related civil case filed against him by several Capitol Police officers. Straka released this statement on X/Twitter:

In the video embedded in his X/Twitter statement, Mr. Straka describes how the original dismissal left a legal window open for the plaintiffs to refile some of their claims. Mr. Straka's attorney sent a message, shown in the video, warning them against the notion. The plaintiff's counsel replied with agreement, thus ending the case. Today's announcement was not, then, a court victory as much as an admission from the plaintiffs, following the earlier dismissal, that they were not going to pursue the actions any further.

#2 Fetterman’s Defiant Clip on U.S. Steel Goes Viral - Citizen Free Press

US Senator John Fetterman blasted US Steel after the company announced it may be bought by Japanese company Nippon Steel. Mr Fetterman is from the Rust Belt, a region of the US that suffered economic devastation when the steel industry shifted outside the US. "I live across the street from US Steel's Edgar Thompson plant in Braddock [Pennsylvania]. It's absolutely outrageous that US Steel has agreed to sell themselves to a foreign company," he said. "Steel is always about security – both our national security and the economic security of our steel communities. I am committed to doing anything I can do, using my platform and my position, to block this foreign sale."Mr Fetterman made the comments in a video he posted to X/Twitter. The video shows the senator standing on his roof in Braddock, directly across from the steel plant.

"This is yet another example of hard-working Americans being blindsided by greedy corporations willing to sell out their communities to serve their shareholders," he said. "I stand with the men and women of the Steelworkers and their union way of life. We cannot allow them to be screwed over or left behind."

#1 Severe Obesity Increasing Among Young American Children, New Study Confirms - Mike Stobbe for Fortune.Com

A new study adds to evidence that severe obesity is becoming more common in young U.S. children. There was some hope that children in a government food program might be bucking a trend in obesity rates—earlier research found rates were dropping a little about a decade ago for those kids. But an update released Monday in the journal Pediatrics shows the rate bounced back up a bit by 2020. Experts say severe obesity at a very early age is nearly irreversible and is strongly associated with chronic health problems and early death. It’s not clear why the increase occurred, Blanck said.

A Kentucky Family Gets an Early Gift: An Owl in Their Christmas Tree - AP News

One Kentucky family got a little something extra when they picked out their Christmas tree this year: an owl. Lexington resident Michele White told WDKY-TV that it’s a tradition for the family to pick out a Christmas tree every year, and this year seemed no different. They had the tree in their home for four days and didn’t notice anything unusual. “The owl was literally sitting on a lower limb here,”
