Former Vice President, Joe Biden, made the announcement on Twitter that he has picked California Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate for the Presidential election on November 3rd.
“I have the great honor to announce that I’ve picked @KamalaHarris — a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants — as my running mate,” Biden said in a tweet.
“Back when Kamala was Attorney General, she worked closely with Beau,” he said, referring to his late son who served as attorney general of Delaware while Harris held the same role in California. “I watched as they took on the big banks, lifted up working people, and protected women and kids from abuse. I was proud then, and I’m proud now to have her as my partner in this campaign,” Biden wrote.
Harris was elected as the senator for California in 2016 and ran for the Presidential nominee for the Democrat party in 2019. Her campaign said she was bowing out because her campaign ran out of money.
Back in 2018, Harris grilled then-nominee Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, infamously berating the nominee, using her time to grandstand. In a 2018 article from Fox News she was called out for a tweet that showed Kavanaugh mentioning the term “abortion-inducing drugs,” a term that Harris slammed as “a dog whistle for going after birth control.”
The tweet suggested that Kavanaugh seeks to take away “a woman’s constitutionally protected right to make her own health care decisions.” But the fact-checkers didn’t find Harris’ commentary or the edited video even remotely accurate. The Washington Post gave the senator four Pinocchios, its most egregious rating, saying the post omitted crucial facts, such as that Kavanaugh was actually quoting the terminology used by the plaintiff in a 2013 court case rather than stating his actual views. Harris later tweeted out Kavanaugh’s answer but didn’t acknowledge the falsehood in her previous tweets.
This was not the first time Harris was caught lying. She claimed she listened to Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur when she smoked pot in college however, the West Coast rappers weren’t putting out music until years after she graduated. “I have. And I inhaled. I did inhale,” Harris said when asked if she has smoked weed. “It was a joint.”
Shortly after the announcement, President Trump tweeted out the following ad showcasing Harris as radical left and pointing out that Joe Biden calls himself "a transition candidate" and labeling them "Slow Joe" and "Phony Kamala".
Later the President gave a press conference from the White House briefing room where he stated Harris was "Nasty, disrespectful" to Biden during the Democrat debates. "I thought she [Harris] was the meanest and most horrible in the United States Senate".
"I was surprised Biden picked Harris, because she did so poorly in the Democratic Primary" the President added.
The Trump Campaign came out with a statement, "Not long ago, Kamala Harris called Joe Biden a racist and asked for an apology she never received. Clearly, Phony Kamala will abandon her own morals, as well as try to bury her record as a prosecutor, in order to appease the anti-police extremists controlling the Democrat Party".
The Biden campaign said Biden and Harris will deliver remarks together on Wednesday in Wilmington, Delaware. Harris is set to debate Vice President Mike Pence this fall, however no date has been confirmed.
