Uthmeier filed the lawsuit in state court, ​alleging that Pfizer told consumers its COVID-19 vaccine was safe ​while failing to disclose potential risks, including heart inflammation ⁠and other adverse events. Pfizer, according to the lawsuit, urged people ​to get the shot to protect others, even though the company ​never tested whether the vaccine stopped the virus from spreading. Florida has also accused Pfizer of using unfair tactics to dominate the market. It said the company ​made more than $80 billion from vaccine sales, then nearly quadrupled ​the price of the vaccine to $110 to $130 a dose in 2023 from $30. The state, ‌suing ⁠under its consumer protection law, wants a court order to stop the alleged conduct, fines of $10,000 per violation, or $15,000 when seniors or disabled people were harmed, and the return of profits...

The Department of Justice reindicted accused pipe bomb suspect Brian Cole Jr., doubling the number of felony counts against him days after his lawyers released a transcript of the FBI interview in which he confessed to planting two devices outside the national party headquarters before Jan. 6, 2021. A federal grand jury returned an eight-count indictment Wednesday that charged Cole separately for each bomb. The earlier four-count indictment grouped the devices found outside the Republican National Committee and Democratic National Committee headquarters together under each charge. The superseding indictment was expected, and Cole was in court on Thursday for his arraignment, according to a court calendar...

A federal judge on Thursday blocked President Trump's firing of Roger Rogoff from his post as the top federal prosecutor in Seattle, finding the president cannot unilaterally remove a U.S. attorney who has been tapped to the post by a district court. U.S. District Judge Stanley Bastian delivered his decision from the bench at the end of a hearing, during which he agreed to grant Rogoff's request to reinstate him until the Senate confirms a replacement. Mr. Trump nominated Simon Peter Serrano to the position of U.S. attorney in Seattle last month. Bastian ruled that Rogoff is the U.S. attorney in the Western District of Washington and has been the "rightful holder of that office" since July 15, when the federal district judges in the region installed him to the role, and he took his oath of office...

An adopted Missouri man got the shock of a lifetime when he discovered his biological father was five-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Michael McDonald of The Doobie Brothers. Michael Goessling was put up for adoption as an infant after his biological parents got pregnant when they were both 14 years old, First Alert 4 reported.  Goessling said he “had a wonderful childhood” raised in St. Louis by his adoptive parents, Paul and Kay Goessling, but always remained curious about his biological roots.  “I could not pick two finer folks to raise me,” he said, adding that he “Always knew I was adopted.”
