A sample of lettuce from Taylor Farms that had tested positive for cyclospora was a false positive, the Food and Drug Administration said Sunday. "Due to the complexity in detection of Cyclospora, FDA laboratory experts re-reviewed the sample results and have concluded that the finding does not represent true amplification and should be considered a false positive," the FDA said. In the statement announcing the false positive, the FDA said that as of Sunday it had not found any "confirmed positive sample results for product testing for Cyclospora." Troy Jackson is a near-lock to be Maine’s Democratic Senate nominee and officially replace scandal-plagued former nominee Graham Platner on November’s ballot. But he still has to escape the shadow of Platner’s meteoric campaign and disastrous collapse. Even as Jackson dominated the weekend’s county delegate conventions, showing organizing strength that will benefit his campaign through November, many Maine Democrats expressed frustrations with the makeshift nomination process triggered by Platner’s last-minute resignation and raised concerns about Jackson’s ability to carry the torch of the high-energy populist movement ignited by Platner...

New York is spending more on education than any state in the nation despite shrinking schools and 12% fewer students than 15 years ago, an eye-opening new report found. The reckoning will force policymakers to consider controversial decisions: closing or merging schools and reducing staff or continuing to prop up facilities with a dearth of students, the report said...
