The vast data centers that power artificial intelligence guzzle huge amounts of energy, but they also have another alarming impact, according to new research. They are creating “heat islands,” warming the land around them by up to 16 degrees Fahrenheit, and making life hotter for more than 340 million people. There are still big gaps in our understanding of the impacts of data centers, even as they boom in number, said Andrea Marinoni, associate professor with the Earth Observation group at the University of Cambridge, and an author of the study, which has not yet been peer-reviewed...

Republican Governor Ron DeSantis on Monday signed HB 1471, a sweeping bill that bars Florida courts from applying foreign or religious laws—including Sharia law—when doing so would violate constitutional rights. The legislation also expands Florida's independent authority to designate and defund what it deems domestic terrorist organizations, marking what DeSantis called the "strongest action" any state has taken against both overt and "stealth jihad."

Two relatives of the deceased Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Major Gen. Qasem Soleimani are now in federal custody after being arrested by immigration agents in Los Angeles on Friday night. The two are among a number of Iranians to have their legal status in the U.S. revoked for allegedly supporting the terrorist regime in Iran. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Hamideh Soleimani Afshar, the niece of Soleimani, and her daughter were taken into ICE custody in Los Angeles and will be deported back to Iran. The state department says Soleimani's niece and grandniece were living a "lavish lifestyle" in Los Angeles, and at least one of them promoted propaganda from the Iranian regime and celebrated attacks on Americans...

The Trump administration on Monday finalized a 2027 payment rate increase to privately run Medicare plans that was far bigger than initially proposed, a boost to health insurer stocks. The government will increase average Medicare Advantage payments by 2.48%, or more than $13 billion, in 2027, according to a release from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The Trump administration in January proposed a payment rate hike of 0.09%, which pummeled shares of insurers that run those plans. Shares of UnitedHealth and CVS Health rose more than 9% in after-hours trading on Monday. Meanwhile, Humana’s stock jumped by around 12%. “Medicare Advantage and Part D should work for the people who rely on them,” said CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz in a release. “These updates keep coverage affordable and ensure patients get real value from their plans.”

US Vice President JD Vance has landed in Budapest to bolster support for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, whose Fidesz Party faces its most difficult election in more than 10 years. Vance’s two-day visit comes on Tuesday, two months after US President Donald Trump endorsed right-wing leader Orban in February before Hungary’s April 12 parliamentary elections, while US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited the country that month to show support. “This visit clearly shows that there is a new golden age in US-Hungary relations,” Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Tuesday. #9 Your Body Was Never Broken. That Was the Point - Tracy Beanz and Michelle Edwards for The HighWire, UncoverDC, A Black Banana, papawalk/Goku, Mind Nexus, and Vili Ross on X
For decades, an increasingly unhealthy American public has been handed the same story. The human body is fragile, complicated, and largely dependent on medical intervention to function properly. Got a problem? Hold on, there’s a drug for that. Feeling run down? Probably a deficiency. Something more serious? Here’s a lifelong prescription. What we haven’t been properly told—indeed, what has been carefully and deliberately kept from us—is that the body is arguably the most advanced energy system on this planet, and it was built to take care of itself. That inconvenient truth costs Big Pharma trillions...
