Ali Khamenei’s son Mojtaba has been named the next supreme leader. US President Donald Trump previously said Mojtaba would be an “unacceptable” choice, and Israel vowed to target any successor. Her advice to policymakers was to prepare for “the unthinkable.”

#2 Trump Doesn’t Rule Out Sending American Troops to Iran - Geoff Earle for New York Post, MS Now on YouTube, pakistan walli/CZXzbt, Bryan81, PoliticsGirl/Adam, and @Méchant Réac | Laurent Sailly on X

President Donald Trump did not rule out sending US troops to Iran, but pledged to do so only for a “very good reason” – against a virtually obliterated opponent. Trump initially said he didn’t want to answer the question, as he flew back to Florida Saturday from Dover Air Force Base on Air Force One.  “Could there be? Possibly for a very good reason,” Trump said when asked about American boots on the ground in Iran. “And I would say if we ever did that, they would be so decimated that they wouldn’t be able to fight at the ground level.”

#3 Oil Hits $100 per Barrel for First Time Since July 2022 - Steve Kopack for NBC News, Investing.com, Good Morning America, FOX 5 Atlanta, DanLeeInIN, and David on X
The price of oil surged past $100 on Sunday for the first time since July 2022 as the ripple effects from the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran continued to hit global markets.  U.S. crude oil futures rose more than 25%, at one point reaching nearly $115 per barrel, while Brent, the international benchmark, jumped more than 20% to $110 per barrel. In early trading Monday morning, both indexes had fallen back slightly. In addition to oil’s rise, S&P 500 futures plunged 2.3%, Dow futures plummeted more than 1,000 points, and Nasdaq 100 futures slid 2.7%, indicating U.S. stocks were poised to continue last week's descent...

#4 Price Controls Arrive: South Korea, Taiwan Impose Fuel Price Cap - Tyler Durden ZeroHedge, The Dive Feed, The Spectator Index/South Asia Watch, Reuters Asia,
Arlaadi Media and Justice 2026 on X
It’s a bloodbath across Asian markets this morning, with Asia being the world’s largest oil-importing region. Based on a Goldman analysis of the impact of higher oil on real GDP growth (chart below), China is the most insulated from supply-driven oil price increases compared to other emerging Asian economies, with $15/bbl higher crude oil prices leading to 0-0.1pp lower GDP growth and 0.1-0.2pp higher headline CPI inflation. This resilience is partly due to the country's economic structure and the potential for government intervention to dampen the pass-through of global price increases to consumers. Increased oil stockpiling last year - some estimates put China's strategic oil reserve at 1.5 billion barrels - and very low inflation over the past few years also make China less vulnerable to rising energy prices...

During his father’s memorial service on Saturday, Jesse Jackson Jr. offered a sharp rebuke of the tributes given by former Democratic presidents Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden, noting that the trio shared one thing in common: they didn’t really know his father.  "Yesterday I listened for several hours to three United States presidents who do not know Jesse Jackson," Jackson Jr. said on Saturday. Houston's Hobby Airport at one point reported lines averaging 3.5 hours. On March 6, the longtime congressman announced, shortly after the candidate filing deadline passed, that he would retire at the end of his term. “This decision has been on my mind for a while, and I didn’t make it lightly,” Issa said in a statement announcing the end of his reelection bid. Issa said he had built a strong campaign operation, enjoyed broad support, and believed polling showed he could win. But after roughly a quarter-century in Congress and another quarter-century in business, he said it was time “for a new chapter and new challenges.” “First, we built the right campaign infrastructure, support has been overwhelming—including from President [Donald] Trump—and our polling was unmistakable: We would win this race. But after a quarter-century in Congress—and before that, a quarter-century in business—it’s the right time for a new chapter and new challenges.”
