Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth says the U.S. is "accelerating, not decelerating" its war on Iran, with more assets heading to the region as the conflict ricochets from Turkey to Sri Lanka and Israel steps up strikes in Tehran and Lebanon. Hegseth said a U.S. torpedo sank an Iranian warship in the Indian Ocean. The Iranian regime says Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's three-day funeral is being postponed amid the continuing escalation of the war, which a U.S.-based organization says has killed more than 1,000 civilians in the country, including more than 180 children...
#2 Senate Rejects Bid to Scale Back Iran War - Connor O'Brien for POLITICO, Birgit S - mag eine bunte Welt, WION, Daily Sabah, Lynn Anderson, Pastor Bob Joyce, and @Chicago1Ray/LaRonda on X
The Senate rejected an attempt to rein in the war in Iran, handing President Donald Trump what amounts to an endorsement of his five-day military campaign. The 47-53 vote split largely along party lines, with Republican senators united to defeat a measure that would have required congressional approval to continue the operation. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, a cosponsor, was the only Republican who supported the resolution. Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania broke with his party in support of the strikes, which gave GOP leaders additional room to defeat it...
#3 Iranian Warship Sunk off Its Coast by a US Submarine - Krishan Francis and Bharatha Mallawarachi for AP, candegallo, Post-Revolution Bangladesh, Vin G/Shanaka Anslem Perera, News fetch, and Jaya Nur on X
A torpedo fired by a U.S. submarine sank an Iranian warship off the coast of Sri Lanka, whose navy said Wednesday it recovered 87 bodies and rescued 32 people. The Iranian vessel sunk in the Indian Ocean was the Islamic Republic’s “prize ship,” U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said. It was one of the few instances of a submarine sinking a ship since World War II. The sinking of the IRIS Dena illustrates a U.S.-Israeli military operation against Iran that is stretching beyond its borders. U.S. President Donald Trump has said one of the key objectives of the war is to wipe out Iran’s navy. “An American submarine sunk an Iranian warship that thought it was safe in international waters,” Hegseth said at a Pentagon news briefing. “Instead, it was sunk by a torpedo.”
#4 Colorado Governor Signals Willingness to Release Tina Peters From Prison Amid Trump Pressure - Colleen Slevin and Nicholas Riccardi for AP, John Gilbert Randal Wilson, STOP THE WARS!/Adam Kinzinger (Slava Ukraini), colonel mustard/Kyle Clark, 𝔉𝒏 Karoline Leavitt, and Marie RG on X
Colorado’s Democratic governor, facing a pressure campaign from President Donald Trump, is signaling his openness to granting clemency to a former county clerk who was convicted in a scheme that attempted to find proof of fraud in the 2020 presidential election. A social post by Gov. Jared Polis brought swift rebuke Wednesday from the state’s attorney general, secretary of state, and the association representing local election officials, who said such an action by the governor would send the wrong message to anyone seeking to interfere with elections ahead of this year’s midterms...
#5 Trump Administration Under Fire as Thousands of Americans Are Stranded in War Zone - NBC News, Bucky, Qatar Airways/Ro, HRreview, InformedNotInflamed, and WGRZ on X
In the days after the U.S. and Israel launched an air war against Iran, the State Department issued new advisories warning Americans to reconsider traveling to several countries in the region. By then, it was too late. Thousands of Americans are now stranded in the Middle East as Iran retaliates with drone attacks on U.S. facilities, prompting Democratic lawmakers and current and former State Department officials to sharply criticize the Trump administration for failing to plan for what they say was a predictable scenario...#6 House Oversight Committee Votes to Subpoena Bondi Over Handling of Epstein Investigation - John Parkinson and Jeana Fermi for ABC News, UncoverDC, ivanna tsivli, Trump is a pimp, 7NewsBoston WHDH and Atlanta Black Star on X
In a bipartisan vote on Wednesday, the Republican-led House Oversight Committee voted to subpoena Attorney General Pam Bondi to testify in a closed-door deposition in front of the committee as part of its probe into the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have called for Bondi's testimony for months after the Department of Justice missed the deadline to release the Epstein files by 42 days. While DOJ released more than 3 million files earlier this year, committee investigators estimate that total accounts for only half of the files in the department's custody.

The House voted to table a resolution on Wednesday aimed at forcing the House Ethics Committee to release all its records on investigations into sexual misconduct involving lawmakers. Thirty-eight Republicans and 27 Democrats supported the measure — Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) — coming up for a full vote, which will now instead be referred to committee, where its fate remains uncertain. One Republican, Rep. Brad Knott (R-N.C.) — a member of the House Ethics Committee — voted present. Under the resolution, the panel “would be required to publicly release all reports, conclusions, draft reports, recommendations, and accompanying materials within 60 days of adoption. Personally identifiable information of victims or alleged victims would be redacted to protect their privacy.” Republican Sen. Tim Sheehy of Montana assisted several police officers in physically ejecting a man who interrupted a Capitol Hill hearing on Wednesday to object to the U.S. and Israel's war with Iran. The protester was Brian McGinnis, a Marine veteran running as a Green Party candidate in North Carolina's Senate race, according to his website. He said shortly afterward that his arm was broken during the clash with police and the senator. The U.S. Capitol Police accused him of "violently" assaulting officers. The incident took place at a Senate Armed Services subcommittee hearing that featured testimony from senior military officials on military readiness. Just under 30 minutes after the hearing began, McGinnis began yelling, exclaiming at one point: "America does not want to send its sons and daughters to war for Israel." Students, parents and teachers gathered at the Missouri State Capitol to meet and learn from legislators and to celebrate the 40th anniversary of authorized homeschool education Tuesday. Homeschool Day at the Capitol is organized by Families for Home Education, or FHE, which is “the oldest and largest homeschool organization in Missouri,” according to its website. The day began with a musical performance from the Southside Striders, a homeschool music group from Raymore. The group consisted of homeschool students ages 10 and older, who performed various pieces and the national anthem. Families spent the day at the Capitol to hear speeches from legislators, a lawyer from the Home School Legal Defense Association, and other officials. After the programs, families were encouraged to tour the Capitol and meet with their legislators. “In our view, it’s a great field trip,” said Kim Quan, the assistant executive director of FHE...
Boy Scouts of America is suing an LGBTQ travel company called Queer Scout, alleging that the company's name and fox logo create confusion with the organization, The Arizona Republic reported. The Boy Scouts and Queer Scout have been trying to resolve the trademark dispute for years, the news outlet said.
