#1 ICE Agent’s Killing of Woman in Minneapolis Deepens Tension Over Immigration Crackdown - CNN, Lauren Chen, Call to Activism, Pop Base, Homeland Security, Andy Ngo, and ChrisUniverse on X

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has defended an ICE agent after he fatally shot a woman in Minneapolis, saying she had tried to run over the officer. State and local officials disputed claims that the shooting was done in self-defense. Three videos of the shooting reviewed by CNN show nuance, and exactly what took place before the shooting remains unclear. The woman was identified as 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, a US citizen and mother of three who had recently moved to Minnesota. Before living in the Twin Cities, she had lived most of her life in Colorado. Gov. Tim Walz said he had been “warning for weeks” that ICE operations in his state were a threat to public safety. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey disputed the DHS account and told agents to “get the fuck out of Minneapolis.”

The White House unveiled new dietary guidelines Wednesday, with officials calling it the “most significant reset of federal nutrition policy in history,” though many core recommendations stayed the same.  The guidelines are represented by an upside-down pyramid, placing vegetables, fruits, proteins, dairy, and healthy fats at the top and whole grains at the bottom. “The new guidelines recognize that whole, nutrient-dense food is the most effective path to better health and lower health care costs,” Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said in a White House press briefing...

President Trump said on Wednesday that he will take steps to prevent institutional investors from buying single-family homes, claiming the move would help make housing more affordable for Americans.  In a social media post, Mr. Trump stated that the dream of homeownership has become increasingly out of reach for many Americans, and that action is needed to enable more people to achieve the milestone of owning a residence. "I am immediately taking steps to ban large institutional investors from buying more single-family homes, and I will be calling on Congress to codify it," Mr. Trump wrote. "People live in homes, not corporations." He added that he will provide more details about the proposal at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, later this month...

President Donald Trump on Wednesday declared he would ask Congress for a $1.5 trillion defense budget in 2027, a massive $500 billion increase from this year’s Pentagon budget. The huge boost likely reflects how expensive some of Trump’s military ambitions are, from the Golden Dome air defense effort to his call for a new battleship design. Neither of those programs could be fully funded under current spending levels.  President Donald Trump said Wednesday he would not allow defense companies to buy back their own stocks, offer executives large salaries and issue dividends to shareholders, singling out one of America’s largest missile manufacturers as his biggest target...

Donald Trump has sparked outrage by announcing the US will exit the foundational international agreement to address the climate crisis, cementing the US’s utter isolation from the global effort to confront dangerously escalating temperatures. In a presidential memorandum issued on Wednesday, Trump withdrew from the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), along with 65 other organizations, agencies, and commissions, calling them “contrary to the interests of the United States”. The UNFCCC treaty forms the bedrock of international cooperation to deal with the climate crisis and has been agreed to by every country in the world since its inception 34 years ago. The US Senate ratified the treaty in October 1992...

In the delivery room after a mother gives birth, it is common for the spotlight to fall squarely on the mother and her newborn miracle. And of course, mothers deserve every bit of attention as the baby they’ve been carrying for months finally makes its arrival. Indeed, pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum recovery are nothing short of heroic. Still, in the midst of the crucial bonding that occurs between a mother and her child, a profound moment of human connection often gets overlooked, and that is the father’s first skin-to-skin (SSC) contact with his newborn. Without question, that crucial contact matters more than is typically discussed...
