#1 Trump Signs Executive Order to Neuter State A.I. Laws -  Cecilia Kang for The New York Times, Gigi Bowman, Kelly McCarthy/Rapid Response 47, Edward Dowd, ADAM, and Mario Nawfal on X

President Trump signed an executive order on Thursday that aims to neuter state laws that limit the artificial intelligence industry, a win for tech companies that have lobbied against regulation of the booming technology. The order grants broad authority to the attorney general to sue states and overturn laws that do not support the “United States’ global A.I. dominance,” putting dozens of A.I. safety and consumer protection laws at risk. If states keep their laws in place, Mr. Trump directed federal regulators to withhold funds for broadband and other projects...

#2 House Overturns Trump Executive Order in Historic Vote - Julianna Bragg for Axios, Eric Daugherty, Sanguine Agnostic, Steve Ackerman, 𝓥𝓸𝓻𝓪𝓽𝓱𝓲𝓼, and Alvarezz and Rosie on X

The House of Representatives voted Wednesday to overturn President Trump's executive order ending collective bargaining rights for two-thirds of the federal workforce. It's the first time during Trump's second term that the House has secured enough votes to repeal one of his executive orders, though the measure faces an uphill battle as it heads to the GOP-controlled Senate. Federal employee unions have been at the forefront of the administration's efforts to shrink the federal workforce — moves that laid off more than 200,000 federal employees earlier this year and an approximate 4,000 during the nation's longest-ever government shutdown...

On Wednesday, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins and U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced the approval for Hawai'i, Missouri, North Dakota, South Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee to "amend the statutory definition of 'food for purchase'" under the federal program in 2026...

Western Washington is facing a "historic" flooding crisis that has forced tens of thousands to flee their homes and could displace thousands more on Friday as rivers reach record levels. There have been no reports of fatalities, but local authorities and first responders stressed the potentially lethal nature of the record-breaking flooding. Warnings remain in place for some parts of the state until Saturday morning. Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson said the Skagit was expected to crest Friday morning, making the period through Friday night critical for residents and first responders...

Texas agriculture officials issued an urgent alert this week after confirming that a newly identified invasive pest is spreading quickly across more than 20 counties, threatening grazing lands, hay production, and livestock operations across the state. The insect Helicococcus summervillei, known as the pasture mealybug, has never been reported in North America before. Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller said the pest is already causing visible damage in multiple regions...

#6 Trump Pardons Jailed Ex-Colorado Election Official Tina Peters, but She Was Charged in State Court - Joe Walsh for CBS News, Hodgetwins, Peter Ticktin, Ann Vandersteel TM, RealRobert, and MJTruthUltra on X

President Trump said Thursday evening he is granting a pardon to Tina Peters, a former Colorado county clerk who is serving a nine-year state sentence for allowing unauthorized access to voting machines — even though the president's pardon power is widely understood to only apply to federal crimes.  "Democrats have been relentless in their targeting of TINA PETERS, a Patriot who simply wanted to make sure that our Elections were Fair and Honest," the president claimed on Truth Social, though Peters was prosecuted by an elected Republican district attorney. "Tina is sitting in a Colorado prison for the 'crime' of demanding Honest Elections."

#7 Kilmar Abrego Garcia Freed From US Immigration Detention - Louis Casiano for Fox News, Adam Klasfeld, Breanna Morello, Nick Sortor, New York Post, and Buffalo Bills Fan 2U on X

Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the El Salvadoran illegal immigrant that became the face of the Trump administration's mass deportation campaign, has been released from detention. Garcia's lawyer confirmed his release with Fox News. His release came after a federal judge on Thursday ordered him freed following months of legal wrangling. U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis ordered Abrego Garcia released from the ICE Moshannon Valley Processing Center in Philipsburg, Pa., on the grounds that the Trump administration had not obtained the final notice of removal order that is needed to deport him to a third country, including a list of African nations they had previously identified for his removal...

#8 Rep. Andy Ogles Pushes for Accountability After Accusations He Put Nashville Judges at Risk -  Kassidy Brown for WSMV 4, Eric Daugherty, Rep. Andy Ogles, The Tennessee Holler on X

Rep. Andy Ogles has responded after Nashville judges wrote to Gov. Bill Lee asking for heightened security. The judges made the request following a social media post Ogles made about Mohamed A. Mohamed, who is accused of sexually assaulting an unconscious woman on the steps of a Nolensville church in August. In the letter to Lee, the judges accused Ogles of endangering elected officials in Davidson County, citing his “irresponsible use of the phrase ‘we are at war’ accompanied by the posting of the individual photographs of General Sessions Court Judges.”

#9 Blue Light from LEDs: The Silent Mitochondrial Killer - Tracy Beanz and Michelle Edwards for The HighWire, UncoverDC, Not a Twit, Ramsay, Bryan G, and Dr David Unwin/Andrew D. Huberman Ph.D./the chip on X
Let’s set the record straight about fake LED lights. To put it bluntly, they are slowly killing us and were never intended for health. Instead, LED lights were designed for profit margins, energy quotas, and supply chain convenience. Someone figured out how to squeeze more lumens out of a blue diode, slap a white phosphor on top of it, and, voila—light! But not so fast. LED light—which turns off and on hundreds of times per second at a speed so fast our eyes don’t consciously register it—isn’t light the way our bodies understand it. Instead, it’s a flickering synthetic weapon that wreaks havoc on our mitochondria, the electric life force of every cell in our body.

#10 FDA Intends to Put Its Most Serious Warning on COVID Vaccines, Sources Say - CNN, Insider Paper, Election Wizard, Jamie Gangel, and Firstpost on X

The US Food and Drug Administration intends to put a “black box” warning on Covid-19 vaccines, according to two people familiar with the agency’s plans, the latest move by President Donald Trump’s health officials to undermine a vaccine that was a standout victory of his first term. The plan shocked outside experts, who said there was no basis for the warning. A boxed warning, which appears at the top of prescribing information for medicines, is the agency’s most serious, designed to warn about risks such as death or life-threatening or disabling reactions that should be weighed against the intervention’s benefits. They can also be used when a risk might be lowered by using a medicine in a targeted way, such as only in certain groups...
