At least three people were killed by historic flash floods that hit a New Mexico mountain community that suffered devastating wildfires last year officials, said late Tuesday. The remote village of Ruidoso, about 180 miles south of Albuquerque, confirmed in a statement that a 4-year-old girl, a 7-year-old boy, and a man aged 40 to 50 were all “swept downstream by the unprecedented floodwaters that struck the area." It was unclear if the victims were related or how they were swept away. The New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, and other agencies are investigating the deaths. A news conference with local officials is scheduled for 10 a.m. local time on Wednesday. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth did not inform the White House before he authorized a pause on weapons shipments to Ukraine last week, according to five sources familiar with the matter, setting off a scramble inside the administration to understand why the halt was implemented and explain it to Congress and the Ukrainian government. President Donald Trump suggested on Tuesday that he was not responsible for the move. Asked on Tuesday during a Cabinet meeting whether he approved of the pause in shipments, Trump demurred, saying only that the US would continue to send defensive weapons to Ukraine. Pressed again on who authorized the pause, Trump replied, “I don’t know, why don’t you tell me?”

The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday cleared the way for Donald Trump's administration to pursue mass government job cuts and the sweeping downsizing of numerous agencies, a decision that could lead to tens of thousands of layoffs while dramatically reshaping the federal bureaucracy. Tuesday's ruling stemmed from an executive order Trump issued in February ordering agencies to prepare for mass layoffs. At Trump's direction, the administration has come up with plans to reduce staff at the U.S. Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Health and Human Services, State, Treasury, Veterans Affairs, and more than a dozen other agencies...#4 Unhealthy Food Marketing: The Intentional Targeting of Our Children - Tracy Beanz and Michelle Edwards for The HighWire, The Vigilant Fox, Wrath and Remedy, Mario Nawfal, Dianna M. Rievaj, and Francesca Leader/Glen Dunzweiler on X
Junk food companies—those that produce ultraprocessed meals and snacks full of toxins and lacking any nutritional value—bombard younger generations with carefully crafted, powerful advertisements promoting unhealthy, high-fat, high-sugar, and salty snacks and beverages. Research has shown that the marketing efforts of these companies lead to increased consumption of their destructive products. And now, a sweeping new study published in Obesity Reviews confirms what those of us aware already know. When young people continually see these omnipresent ads, which appear everywhere from TikTok to TV, encouraging unhealthy food choices, they are more likely to consume these harmful products. Once lured in, these young humans become more likely to develop obesity, type 2 diabetes, and other diet-related diseases that can lead to severe diseases and premature death. In other words, they become easy and often lifelong customers for Big Pharma...#3 Trump Comes to Bondi’s Defense Amid Uproar From His Base Over Jeffrey Epstein Files Flop - Eric Tucker for AP News, Dilligent Denizen, Glenn Beck, Breanna Morello, Chicago1Ray, Catturd, and Beard Vet on X
President Donald Trump leaped to the defense of Attorney General Pam Bondi on Tuesday in the face of mounting criticism from far-right influencers and conservative internet personalities over the Justice Department’s abrupt refusal to release additional documents from the Jeffrey Epstein sex-trafficking investigation. When a reporter attempted to ask Bondi about Epstein at a White House Cabinet meeting, Trump headed off the questions and scolded the journalist: “Are you still talking about Jeffrey Epstein? This guy’s been talked about for years.” “I can’t believe you’re asking a question on Epstein at a time like this, where we’re having some of the greatest success and also tragedy with what happened in Texas — it just seems like a desecration,” he added...
#2 Student Loan Cancellation Program Could Become Trump Retribution Tool, Some Advocates Fear - Collin Binkley for AP News 28/22 News (WBRE/WYOU), Software Developer, Indy100.com, and 8 News Now on X
President Donald Trump is reshaping a student loan cancellation program into what some fear will become a tool for political retribution, taking aim at organizations that serve immigrants and transgender youth. Public Service Loan Forgiveness allows government employees, such as teachers and firefighters, plus many who work for nonprofits, to have their student loans canceled after they’ve made payments for 10 years. The Education Department is preparing an overhaul that would strip the benefit from organizations involved in “illegal activities,” with the final determination left up to the U.S. education secretary. A draft proposal released by the department includes definitions of illegal activity that center on immigration, terrorism, and transgender issues.

It’s now OK to keep your shoes on at the airport. The Transportation Safety Administration will allow passengers at airports across the country to keep their footwear on as they go through security checkpoints, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem told reporters Tuesday. The new policy is nationwide and takes effect immediately, said Noem, whose department oversees the TSA. While the rule may not apply to passengers who need additional layers of screening, Noem said, it will be the norm for most people going forward. "With this no-shoes policy, we anticipate that Americans and travelers and those coming into our country will be very excited they will no longer have to remove their shoes," she said...
