Senate clerks have completed a nearly 16-hour reading of the GOP’s 940-page megabill. Clerks began reading the text aloud at 11:08 p.m. Saturday and finished Sunday at 3:03 p.m. By refusing to waive chamber rules allowing for reading, Senate Democrats hoped to create an opportunity to highlight some of the most unpopular issues in the legislation. Now, under Senate rules, there will be 20 hours of the debate evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans...

The Senate on Sunday afternoon began debate on President Donald Trump's megabill for his second-term priorities after a dramatic procedural vote late Saturday night. There could be up to 20 hours of debate. While Democrats will use their allotted 10 hours, Republicans are expected not to. The Senate will begin its "vote-a-rama" at 9 a.m. Monday, during which time senators will offer amendments to the bill. Overnight Sunday, the Senate parliamentarian ruled more provisions out of order with the reconciliation process Republicans are using to pass the bill with a simple majority. Socialist New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani doubled down Sunday on his plan to jack up property taxes on “richer and whiter neighborhoods” — while asserting billionaires shouldn’t exist. Mamdani — dubbed “the Fidel Castro of New York” by one deep-pocketed critic — claimed his soak-the-rich proposal was “not driven by race” despite his campaign platform explicitly targeting white homeowners. “That is just a description of what we see right now. It’s not driven by race. It’s more of an assessment of what neighborhoods are being under-taxed versus over-taxed,” Mamdani told NBC News’ “Meet the Press.”

The US-Canada trade talks could be restarted after President Trump ended all negotiations, as our neighbors to the north were holding out for a digital services tax. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent wasn’t shocked by this move—the Trump team knew it was coming—but had hoped Ottawa would drop it. They didn’t, which led to this cessation of talks. Now, Canada has rescinded the talks, hoping to keep negotiations going...

The Henry family's 21-acre farm is under threat of seizure from Cranbury as the township tries to meet a June 30 deadline to submit a state-mandated, affordable housing plan. The township is required to build 265 affordable housing units over the next decade as part of the statewide order. Eminent domain is the government's power to seize private property for public use, such as infrastructure projects, with compensation to the owner, as authorized under the Fifth Amendment's Takings Clause...
