President Donald Trump’s proposal to end Social Security benefits taxation is not in the big Republican tax bill. Instead, the GOP is crafting legislation this week that would provide an additional $4,000 federal income tax deduction for lower—and middle-income seniors 65 and over. Rep. Jason Smith, R-Mo., chairman of the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee, argued that the break would help those who needed it most. “Seniors, like my aunt who had to take a job as a door greeter at Walmart to supplement her Social Security income after the loss of her husband, will receive much-needed tax relief,” he said. However, while senior activist groups liked the new break, they had concerns about other related issues...

Hillary Clinton has reacted with disdain to President Donald Trump’s decision to accept a $400m Boeing 747-8 jumbo jet as a gift from Qatar’s royal family, warning him that the givers will expect something “in return” for their generosity. “No one gives someone a $400 million jet for free without expecting anything in return. Be serious,” the former U.S. first lady, secretary of state, and Democratic presidential candidate wrote on X on Wednesday. Clinton lost the 2016 presidential election to Trump – a period that saw his supporters chant “Lock her up!” at his rallies – but she has remained a thorn in his side ever since, often pouring scorn on his actions from the sidelines as a pundit...

Donald Trump's push to end birthright citizenship is set to be argued at the US Supreme Court, in a case that could help further his agenda on immigration and other issues. The court will hear arguments on Thursday about whether lower court judges can block presidential orders for the entire country. Trump moved to end birthright citizenship within hours of returning to the White House in January, signing an order that said children who are born in the US to undocumented immigrants are not citizens. Three federal judges stopped it from taking effect, part of a pattern of courts blocking Trump's executive orders. Trump contends they did not have the power to issue the nationwide injunctions...
