Slovakia’s prime minister is expected to survive after he was shot multiple times and gravely wounded during an attempted assassination on Wednesday, according to his deputy. Doctors fought for several hours to save Prime Minister Robert Fico's life after he was shot in the abdomen while he was greeting supporters at an event outside a cultural center in the town of Handlova, Defense Minister Robert Kalina told reporters. "I guess in the end he will survive," Deputy Prime Minister Tomas Taraba told the BBC, adding: "He’s not in a life-threatening situation at this moment." The Department of Health and Human Services has suspended and initiated debarment proceedings against an organization after scrutiny of its work with the Wuhan Institute of Virology revealed a failure to monitor a risky experiment on coronaviruses, failure to obtain lab notebooks from the Wuhan lab and a long-delayed grant report describing the collaboration’s research in the months before the pandemic. EcoHealth Alliance, helmed by President Peter Daszak, will be ineligible to receive funds from the U.S. government. The suspension will stand until the debarment proceedings are complete... The Marine Corps prevented two people from breaking onto a Marine installation in Virginia on May 3 and turned them over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The two people drove up to the Fuller Road Gate of Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, in a box truck and were stopped by military sentries, Capt. Michael Curtis, a spokesman for the base, said in a statement to Marine Corps Times on Tuesday... Free Press, a media group financed by liberal billionaire George Soros, "is looking to incorporate global pressure to push Big Tech platforms to juice their censorship operations before the 2024 U.S. presidential election," according to the Media Research Center (MRC). Free Press, which is not affiliated with journalist Bari Weiss’ The Free Press, bills itself as an organization that "closely watches as the decisions shaping the media landscape are made and sounds the alarm when people’s rights to connect and communicate are in danger." However, in a new report, the conservative MRC found that Soros gave over $80 million to affiliated groups calling for "censorship" ahead of November’s critical election. "One of the wealthiest men in the world is using his vast wealth and power to silence regular Americans ahead of the 2024 election. At a time when defending free speech is key, leftists are trying their best to shut down the voices of half of America, especially those who disagree with the radical agenda promoted by Biden, Soros, and most Big Tech executives," MRC Free Speech America vice president Dan Schneider told Fox News Digital... Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump were "colluding" to exclude him from the debates they agreed to participate in on Wednesday. Biden and Trump said Wednesday that they had accepted invitations for presidential debates hosted by CNN on June 27 and ABC News on Sept. 10... During Michael Cohen's testimony in former President Donald Trump's criminal trial Tuesday, questioning turned to a series of 2018 exchanges between Cohen and a lawyer named Robert Costello. Cohen said he spoke to Costello about an FBI raid and investigation that would ultimately end with his guilty plea to federal charges later that year. Emails shown to the jury depicted Costello as a "back channel of communications" for Cohen while he was under investigation, someone who could relay messages to then-President Trump via his attorney Rudy Giuliani... Gov. Ron DeSantis signed three bills on Wednesday combatting the climate agenda pushed by “green energy zealots.” The slew of legislation slashes climate agenda directives in Florida’s energy policy, places a greater emphasis on nuclear energy and focuses on cost efficiency for Floridians, bans state holdings for Chinese Communist Party-linked companies, and bars state investments into companies that utilize “forced labor.” “The legislation I signed today [will] keep windmills off our beaches, gas in our tanks, and China out of our state,” the governor said. “We’re restoring sanity in our approach to energy and rejecting the agenda of the radical green zealots.” “Furthermore, we’re going to ensure foreign adversaries like China have no foothold in our state,” he said... President Joe Biden on Thursday claimed the recording of his interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur about his retention of classified documents should not be released due to executive privilege just hours before House Republicans were set to move toward holding Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress for not releasing the recordings. The Justice Department's Legal Counsel Office said the recording should be considered protected by executive privilege, and Garland should not be punished for not releasing it, Associate Attorney General Carlos Uriatre said... A bill aimed at booting illegal immigrants out of the U.S. if they assault a police officer passed the House of Representatives on Wednesday evening. It's one of several pieces of legislation that House Republican leaders are putting up for a vote this week as part of National Police Week. The bill passed with a 265 to 148 vote, with 54 Democrats voting with the GOP. The bill is called the Detain and Deport Illegal Aliens Who Assault Cops Act and is led by Rep. Jeff Van Drew, R-N.J. He said in February when the bill was being introduced, "There is no reason that an illegal alien who attacks our law enforcement should remain in our country; that shows zero respect for our rule of law or our institutions, and they will not be positive contributors to society." Maddison Crowell always knew she wanted to go to university, and her parents were all on board making it happen. Throughout her later high school years, they would regularly send admission applications to various schools, some nearer to their home in Liberty County, Georgia, and some much farther away. When it came time to make the big decision, One might say she had the pick of the litter because not 2, not 3, but 231 different universities and colleges had sent her acceptance letters, bundled in which were various scholarships totaling $14.7 million...
