#10 $1.8B Mystery Deepens as SC Lawmakers Investigate Source of Funds - Tina Terry for WSOC TV and SC Policy Council and Fawn Pedalino on X
A new report says it will take a special accounting firm to determine where $1.8 billion found in the state’s bank account came from and what to do with it. Channel 9's Tina Terry spoke to York County Sen. Mike Fanning, who sits on the Senate Finance Committee. He said the state treasurer has made it hard to identify the source of that money while lawmakers seek help to figure it out. Some House members are pushing a new bill to make sure that money gets back into the pockets of taxpayers. Beth Brueneman has been paying attention to the Senate investigation. “I think they need better accountants,” she said. “That’s ridiculous.” A finance subcommittee started investigating after they found the money more than two months ago. It was sitting unused in an account...

#9 Gorsuch Hammers Biden DOJ on ‘Mostly Peaceful Protests’ - Kaelan Deese for Washington Examiner

Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch on Tuesday questioned the Biden administration’s ranking Justice Department lawyer about the scope of a federal criminal law used against protesters during the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol charged for “obstruction” of an official proceeding. Two of the four counts against former President Donald Trump in special counsel Jack Smith’s election subversion case are also related to the same question, which is whether the statute known as 1512(c)(2) that makes it a federal crime to “corruptly” obstruct an official proceeding applies to otherwise nonviolent protesters. Gorsuch, an appointee of Trump, asked a range of questions, including whether a “mostly peaceful protest” would be covered under the law...

#8 Threat to Johnson’s Speakership Looms Larger as Massie Cosponsors Greene’s Motion to Vacate - Alex Nitzberg for Blaze Media and Rep. Thomas Massie, RepMTG and ProudArmyBrat for X

Last month, Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia targeted House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), filing a motion to vacate the speakership. Now, Greene is getting backup: GOP Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky has announced that he is cosponsoring the motion to vacate. "I just told Mike Johnson in conference that I'm cosponsoring the Motion to Vacate that was introduced by @RepMTG. He should pre-announce his resignation (as Boehner did), so we can pick a new Speaker without ever being without a GOP Speaker," Massie tweeted on Tuesday. "He said he won't resign. I said to him that he is the only one who can prevent us from going through what happened last fall," Massie wrote in another post...

#7 Senior Democrat Says Party Will Save House Speaker From Ousting – On One Condition - John Bowden and Andrew Feinberg for the Independent and Charlie Kirk for X

A senior Democratic member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee has said his party will help prevent the ouster of House Speaker Mike Johnson if the Louisiana Republican allows a defense aid package, including humanitarian aid for Gaza, to receive an up-or-down vote on the House floor. Brad Sherman, a California Representative who serves as the second-highest-ranking Democrat on the Foreign Affairs panel, told The Independent Mr. Johnson could receive Democratic assistance on a vote to remove him if he ensures that the humanitarian aid provisions remain in the bill he has promised to put to the vote this week. “We’ve got to pass it, and it’s got to include the humanitarian aid,” he said. “I think if he does that, and then there’s a motion to vacate the speakership because he did the right thing, even if he did it in four separate notebooks on unlimited colored papers, the Democrats will not allow it [the motion to vacate] to pass.”

#6 Migrants Swarm New York City Hall During Hearing about ‘Integrating Newcomers’ Into NYC -  Jackson Walker for WJACTV and Ian Miles Cheong, Ashley St Clair and Stephen L. Miller for X

Hundreds of migrants swarmed New York City Hall Tuesday, waving flags and chanting at city officials, according to videos posted to social media. The migrants, mostly French-speaking natives of Africa and Haiti, reportedly gathered to demand “assistance and the ability to work," according to a report by journalist Savanah Hernandez. The scene, Hernandez said, is “what every single park in New York is starting to look like." The commotion coincided with an appearance by New York City Mayor Eric Adams at a city council meeting to discuss the city’s upcoming “new arrivals strategy team.” The group is “a diverse set of experts” who are charged with improving the city’s response to a seemingly endless influx of migrants...

#5 7.2m Illegals Entered the US Under Biden Admin, an Amount Greater Than Population of 36 States - Chris Pandolfo Fox News and Elon Musk on X

Nearly 7.3 million migrants have illegally crossed the southwest border under President Biden's watch, a number greater than the population of 36 individual states, a Fox News analysis finds. That figure comes from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), which has already reported 961,537 border encounters in the current fiscal year, which runs from October through September. If the current pace of illegal immigration does not slow down, fiscal year 2024 will break last year's record of 2,475,669 southwest border encounters — a number that by itself exceeds the population of New Mexico, a border state. The total number of southwest land border encounters since Biden assumed office in 2021 is 7,298,486, CBP data shows...

#4 Venezuelan Illegal Arrested for Disorderly Conduct Complains His Rights Are Being Violated - Kevin Haggerty for BPR and Libs of TikTok on X

An illegal alien issued a bold claim about his rights as cops arrested him at a New York hotel that has been the center of scores of calls. “…he’s the one complaining.” Taxpayer-funded room and board, spending money, and a seemingly endless supply of get-out-of-jail-free cards have unsurprisingly encouraged the endless tide of foreign nationals flooding the United States. Despite varying experiences with those kinds of perks, one Venezuelan-born alien was caught griping about “his rights being violated” after an alleged tirade had landed him in cuffs...

#3 Why is Trump's Truth Social Stock Plummeting? - Max Zahn for ABC News and Mario Nawfal on X

Shares of Truth Social soared after the company’s market debut last month -- but the stock price has plummeted since then. After vaulting from an initial offering price of about $50 to a peak of nearly $80 in late March, the share price has dropped a staggering 68%. In early trading on Tuesday, the price stood at about $25. The sharp decline traces primarily to the company’s status as a so-called meme stock, which appeals to investors on the basis of ideology rather than financial outlook, experts told ABC News. Since Truth Social suffers continued losses and lacks a path to profitability, the stock risks selloffs on even mildly negative news, they said...

#2 How Bidenomics Shattered The American Dream Of Homeownership - Helen Raleigh for The Federalist

Homeownership has long been a critical component of the American Dream. But under Bidenomics, owning a home is beyond the reach of many Americans due to the rising cost of owning and maintaining a home, according to the latest report by The Wall Street Journal. Buying a home is more than having a roof over one’s head. Homeownership is the primary driver that has helped generations of Americans build wealth. A home is an appreciable asset, and its value usually increases substantially over a long period of time. Naturally, the primary residence represents the most significant asset among American households. According to the Census Bureau, homeowners’ median net worth is 80 times larger than renters’ median net worth...

Good  ‘You Will Always Have a Part of Her in You’: Florida Teen Saves Dad’s Life With Kidney - Saleen Martin for USA TODAY and X

Shawn Glenn had many loved ones offer to help when he was diagnosed with kidney failure, but he always turned them down. “I wanted everybody around me … to be healthy just in case something happened to me,” the West Palm Beach, Florida father of five told USA TODAY this week. “I wanted to wait for a non-living donor.” He never imagined that his donor would be his own teenage daughter, Symaria Glenn. The 13-year-old suffered a brain bleed at the end of January and lost her battle with the illness on Feb. 3. When doctors asked their family about donating her organs, her mother, Dhima Martin, thought allowing Symaria to do one last good deed would be fitting for the middle-schooler, who was always looking out for others during her life...
