Following the appeal, Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold announced that she will include Trump on the primary ballot on the Jan. 5 certification deadline unless the U.S. Supreme Court affirms the lower court's ruling or declines to take up the case.

#9 Despite Backlog of Veterans’ Claims, VA Using Resources to Help Illegal Immigrants - Kevin Killough for Just the News
With hundreds of thousands of veterans’ healthcare claims on backlog at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), top Republicans in the House and Senate are hoping to prevent VA resources from being used to process claims for medical care of illegal immigrants. According to a July report from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the agency contracts with the VA to process medical claims reimbursements involving illegal immigrants even though they did not serve in the U.S. military. Medical professionals treat illegal immigrants detained by ICE on site, but when specialized or emergency care is required, they are transported to private providers, according to Fox News. The arrangement between ICE and the VA was outlined in a 2020 memo during the Trump administration.

#7 Maine’s Top Election Official Removes Trump From 2024 Primary Ballot - Marshall Cohen for CNN
Maine’s top election official has removed former President Donald Trump from the state’s 2024 primary ballot in a shock decision based on the 14th Amendment’s “insurrectionist ban.” Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows paused her decision pending a potential appeal in state court, which Trump’s team said they intend to file. Bellows, a Democrat, issued the decision Thursday after presiding over an administrative hearing earlier this month about Trump’s eligibility for office. A bipartisan group of former state lawmakers filed the challenge against Trump. “I do not reach this conclusion lightly,” Bellows wrote. “Democracy is sacred … I am mindful that no Secretary of State has ever deprived a presidential candidate of ballot access based on Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment. I am also mindful, however, that no presidential candidate has ever before engaged in insurrection.”

Nikki Haley Defends Leaving Slavery Out as Cause of Civil War After Backlash - Nidia Cavazos for CBS News
Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley on Thursday sought to defend earlier comments that failed to mention slavery as a cause of the Civil War as she received backlash on social media. "I mean, of course, the Civil War was about slavery," Haley said on The Pulse of New Hampshire Radio program "Good Morning NH with Jack Heath." "We know that- that's, that's the easy part of it. What I was saying was, what does it mean to us today? What it means to us today is about freedom. That's what that was all about. It was about individual freedom, it was about economic freedom, it was about individual rights," she said.

#5 Fetterman To Carville: 'Shut The F*** Up' Over Biden's Sagging 2024 Prospects - Tyler Durden for Zero Hedge
Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman spontaneously ripped into fellow Democrat James Carville, telling the seasoned pundit and former Bill Clinton '92 lead strategist to "shut the fuck up" about President Biden's increasingly dim prospects for re-election. After first saying there's plenty of time between now and the election and that he's not worried, Fetterman opened fire on the 79-year-old quasi-reptilian election sage from Louisiana:   "While there are Democrats that are being very critical about the president. ... I’ll use this [as] another opportunity to tell James Carville to shut the fuck up."

#4 Intermittent Fasting Seems to Result in Dynamic Changes to The Human Brain - David Nield for Science Alert
Scientists looking to tackle our ongoing obesity crisis have made an important discovery: Intermittent fasting leads to significant changes both in the gut and the brain, which may open up new options for maintaining a healthy weight. Researchers from China studied 25 volunteers classed as obese over a period of 62 days, during which they took part in an intermittent energy restriction (IER) program – a regime that involves careful control of calorie intake and fasting on some days. Not only did the participants in the study lose weight – 7.6 kilograms (16.8 pounds) or 7.8 percent of their body weight on average – there was also evidence of shifts in the activity of obesity-related regions of the brain and in the make-up of gut bacteria. "The observed changes in the gut microbiome and in the activity in addiction-related brain regions during and after weight loss are highly dynamic and coupled over time."
